Spray Bottles

These Zep Professional Sprayers are a great quality product, however, any spray bottle will do just fine for this. The lowest cost option would probably be to buy a spray bottle from the dollar store. If you are buying a spray bottle, maybe pick up a couple, so you can fill one with D.I.Y.C.C Super Spotter. D.I.Y.C.C Super Spotter is my secret spot removal formula... This spot removal formula can be used to remove just about any kind of spot from carpet. Click here if you want to learn how to make it.

Wet Dry Vac - Compressed.jpg

Small Wet/Dry Vacuum

If you want to be able to do spot removal like a professional carpet cleaner, a small wet/dry vacuum is an excellent tool to have on hand. One big advantage a professional cleaner has over their customers is the ability to extract stains with a high powered vacuum. A wet/dry vacuum allows us to suck spots and spills out of carpet just like a pro. The wet/dry vacuums that I have recommended also come with a blower function. A blower function allows us to speed dry damp areas after doing spot removal.

Isopropyl Alcohol - Compressed.jpg

70% Isopropyl Alcohol

Isopropyl alcohol is often added to many household cleaners to boost performance. However, it also works well on it's own, without mixing with other cleaning products. isopropyl alcohol is a solvent cleaner, so It dissolves grease and breaks down and suspends all kinds of soils. The best part about using an alcohol as a spotter is that it completely evaporates, leaving zero residue. If you are on a budget, this is a great product for you! just apply some alcohol to a spot, then blot or gently wipe it up with a cloth. No need to rinse it out.

Hydrogen Peroxide - Compressed.jpg

3% Hydrogen Peroxide

Sometimes spot removal alone will not completely remove spots/stains. When this happens, we can use an oxidizer like hydrogen peroxide to make the stain invisible. This will work on most organic dye stains, like urine, wine, etc. Hydrogen peroxide causes organic dye molecules to collapse, hence reflect light differently, and become invisible. So if you have been having no luck removing a spot with a spotter, like D.I.Y.C.C Supper Spotter, and the stain is caused by an organic substance, maybe give 3% hydrogen peroxide a try.

UV Light - Compressed.jpg

UV Light

A UV light can be a handy tool for a do it yourself carpet cleaner. Firstly, this light can be used to find pet urine stains in carpet. Secondly, it can also be used to boost the power of hydrogen peroxide. If you have tried hydrogen peroxide on an organic dye stain, and it didn't help, try it again with UV light and hydrogen peroxide together. UV light causes hydrogen peroxide molecules to decompose into hydroxyl radicals which act as a super powered oxidizer for stains like mustard, turmeric, and some difficult urine stains.
